Lucent is indicated in:

• Post-menopausal osteoporosis
• Renal osteodystrophy
• Postsurgical hypoparathyroidism
• Idiopathic hypoparathyroidism
• Pseudohypoparathyroidism
• Secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients with moderate to severe chronic renal failure (pre-dialysis)
• Vitamin D-dependent rickets

How does Lucent Capsule work?

Calcitriol is the active form of Vitamin D. It raises Vitamin D levels in your blood. This in turn raises calcium levels in your blood by helping you absorb more calcium from your intestine.

Side Effects of Lucent Capsule

Side effects may include weakness, headache, nausea, vomiting, constipation, bone pain, and others.

Quick Suggestions:

• Do not take any other forms of Vitamin D unless your doctor suggests.
• Take calcium supplements along with Vitamin D3 as suggested by your doctor.
• Drink plenty of fluids (such as water) as it is important not to become dehydrated.
• Avoid using antacids without your doctor's advice. Some antacids can make it harder for your body to absorb calcitriol.
• Consult your doctor if you notice a metallic taste in mouth, muscle or joint pain, headache or drowziness.

Indication of Lucent Capsule

Calcitriol is used in the treatment of calcium deficiency and post-menopausal osteoporosis.

Pharmacology:

Calcitriol, the active metabolite of vitamin D3, regulates calcium homeostasis by promoting intestinal absorption of calcium and regulating bone mineralization.

Dosage & Administration of Lucent Capsule

• Dosage should be carefully determined based on serum calcium levels.
• Dosage varies depending on the condition being treated, such as osteoporosis, renal osteodystrophy, hypoparathyroidism, or rickets.
• Dosage adjustments may be necessary in pediatric patients and the elderly.
• Overdose may cause hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria, and hyperphosphatemia, requiring immediate discontinuation of therapy.

Interaction

Lucent may interact with thiazide diuretics, digitalis, and magnesium-containing drugs.

Contraindications

Lucent is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to its ingredients or in conditions associated with hypercalcemia.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Calcitriol may be used during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. Monitoring of serum calcium levels is recommended during lactation.

Precautions & Warnings

Excessive dosage of Lucent can lead to hypercalcemia and hypercalciuria. It should be used cautiously in patients on digitalis.
